PHILOSOPHY
The Day School is a ministry of
First Presbyterian Church. Its purpose is to take seriously the baptismal
vows to nurture our children in the Christian faith. Our goal is to
provide a Christian atmosphere in which each child will grow spiritually,
physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
This program is designed to give each
child the age appropriate experience he or she needs in a Christian
environment surrounded with love, to develop satisfying relationships,
increase awareness and knowledge about the world, to grow in self
understanding, and to use his or her developing powers to communicate and
think.
CURRICULUM
The babies and one year olds use the “Every Day in Every Way” by Cynthia Holly and Faraday
Burditt. This is a calendar of preschool
learning challenges divided into areas of fine motor activities, learning
centers, circle time, planning, thinking, and talking, music and movement,
snacks, learning by doing, recess, and story time, as well as crafts, rhymes,
finger plays, and dramatizations. The one, two,
three and four year old classes will also be using
Zoo-phonics (www.zoophonics.com), a
phonetically based comprehensive curriculum. Activities are individualized
to each age group.
In addition to classroom curriculum,
students will attend a music class, Chapel, and Library each week.
Three and four year olds will also attend Spanish and computer class weekly. We
will have special days each year including days for moms, dads, and other
family members.
ADMISSIONS
Children from 8 weeks to 4 years of age
as of September 1 may register for Day School. Registration opens
first to currently enrolled children and their siblings, then church
members. Any spaces still available will be open to other children in the
community.
