 Music Ministry

First Presbyterian's Music Ministry seeks to provide opportunities for all ages to seek and worship God through music. Choirs provide leadership for worship services and provide participants with opportunities for service, learning, and fun. Contact Tom George through the church office for information about any of our music programs.

Children's Choirs

Cherub Choir is for children ages 3, 4, and 5 who are not yet in school. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:15 - 5:45 PM. This choir, under the direction of Debby King, seeks to introduce children to music through songs, games, crafts, and movement activities. The children learn to worship and praise God through singing, playing simple instruments, and dancing.

For children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, the Primary Choir meets as part of the LOGOS program on Wednesday afternoons. The children begin to learn and explore the various aspects of music through games and other fun-filled activities. Primary Choir members prepare and present anthems for worship services, sing in special programs throughout the year, and serve as part of the chorus for the annual Children’s Choir Musical presented in March.

Junior Choir is for children in grades 3-5. This choir meets as a part of the LOGOS program on Wednesday afternoons. This choir is a continuation and expansion of the Primary Choir. The Junior Choir presents anthems and other service music as part of Worship Service on a regular basis. Preparation to lead in worship is one of our priorities; however, the educational aspects so vital to the younger choirs are still continued in the Junior Choir. Junior Choir members also serve as part of the chorus for the annual Children’s Choir Musical presented in March.

Children’s Choir Musical is an opportunity for children in grades 3 - 5 to sing, act, dance, and take part in staging a musical! The musicals are based on Biblical stories or themes and are presented as the program for a Wednesday Night Supper in early March. Rehearsals are held from January through March on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

Presbyterian Music Camp is held annually  during one week in June, Monday through Friday 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Children in grades K - 6 meet together for a week of learning, singing, arts and crafts, and recreation. The children present a closing program for parents and friends at noon on Friday, the week of the camp. Participants do not have to be members of First Presbyterian.

Youth Choir

Youth Choir is for those in grades 6-12 and meets on Sunday afternoons from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. This group prepares music for use in worship and provides musical leadership for Youth Sunday. The choir also looks for service opportunities and seeks to provide fellowship and spiritual development for its members.

Adult Choirs

Adult Choir meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:35 - 9:05 PM and provides leadership for the 11:00 AM Sunday worship service. This group also provides music for special services throughout the year, and sometimes presents special musical programs and cantatas.

Early Worship Choir meets on Sunday mornings from 8:00 - 8:30 AM in the Sanctuary. This choir provides musical leadership for the 8:45 AM worship service and is involved in leading the congregation in singing hymns. It also prepares anthems for frequent presentation throughout the year.

Adult Handbell Choir is open to 11 ringers who read music fairly well. Rehearsals are usually held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 8:30 PM. This group prepares music for worship services on a regular basis and sometimes plays in concerts and for other special events.
