Serving Opportunities
Usher/Vestibule Teams
Serve once a month on a specific team at worship services and at funerals. Ushers distribute bulletins, collect the offering and help seat worshipers. Vestibule team members greet worshipers after the service at the exit doors.
TV Ministry & Soundboard
Volunteers assist in the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Training is available.
Weekday Volunteer Receptionist
Volunteers are needed Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to answer the 5 telephone lines and greet visitors at the reception desk.
Home For Good
Home for Good is charged with implementing the city's plan to end homelessness. We do so by doing outreach in the community to those experiencing homelessness, assessing the unique needs of each individual or household and providing housing and other services as needed either directly or in collaboration with community partners.
Greeters
Serve once a month, two opportunities, one prior to Sunday school in the reception hall and the other prior to the 11:00 a.m. service at the sanctuary doors.
Rise Against Hunger
The whole family is invited to participate in this service event as we package 15,000 meals that will provide food for children and adults around the world. It will be a fun opportunity to serve together, and we will all look amazing in our hairnets!
Vacation Bible School
Held for a first full week in the summer from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. VBS is coordinated by Director of Educational Ministries, Vickie Dieth. Volunteers are needed for a host of positions including Program Leaders, and Snack Crew.
FPC Flower Ministry
First Presbyterian Church has a Flower Ministry. Members of the Flower Ministry team arranges the sanctuary flowers in smaller vases and other members get an email on Saturday afternoon asking if they can help on Sunday morning to arrange vases and on Monday to deliver flowers. The members answer with yes or no for that week.
The Abbey
First Presbyterian Church provides support for The Abbey, a ministry to young adults in the Columbus area, by providing prayer, meals, and financial support. Members of First Presbyterian Church volunteer in a variety of capacities – learn more about how you can help.
Break Bread
Break Bread (aka Meals On Wheels) is a program begun over 30 years ago by First Presbyterian Church to deliver hot meals at lunchtime to the elderly and homebound. These days, volunteers, either individually or in tandem, pick up meals at Direct Services at 2401 Hamilton Road and deliver them to up to ten homes. The volunteer commitment is usually for one or two days per month, and the routes take roughly an hour to complete. For more information, please email Scott Bryan or call 706.870.2002.
